Abstract
Civil wars have historically had disastrous impacts on the civilian population. The humanitarian system has tried to ensure the delivery of basic goods and services despite the widespread challenges of operating in such fraught contexts. This work aims to understand what are the main obstacles encountered by humanitarians in these situations, while trying to find possible ways forward. This is achieved through a comparative analysis of three amongst the most concerning civil wars of current times: Yemen, Sudan and Syria. Analysing the experience of relief actors, final recommendations are provided to ensure that in times of conflict all lives are protected, no matter what.
