Riassunto analitico
The thesis proposes three essays that represent a qualitative outlook on how the tool of Proof-of-Concept (PoC) programs recently evolved and a practical overview of how to implement them. The first essay explores how implementing gap funding instruments such as PoC programs can contribute to developing dynamic capabilities in Public Research Organizations. The research investigates the processes and practices underlying PoC programs that may provide potential foundations for dynamic capabilities (i.e., organizational microfoundations) in Public Research Organizations operating within a technology transfer setting. The second essay is a configurational study that looks at the relationship between the activation of instruments such as PoC programs and the emergence of commercial outcomes resulting from university-industry collaborative activities, and how different organizational factors relate to each other in fostering technology commercialization resulting from those activities. The third essay explores how PoC programs are differently implemented by public and private organizations to facilitate Open Innovation practices in technology valorization.
