Riassunto analitico
Elderly persons, (persons aged sixty years and above) have been proven to experience an increased level of vulnerability to risks in social, economic and health care dimensions. This increased vulnerability can in turn be directly associated with reduced physical capabilities, which are brought about by age-based organ system degeneration. As such, this yields increased need for the development of human rights instruments for the protection of elderly persons against the vulnerabilities. This study therefore examines of the application of human rights instruments in the protection of elderly human rights, particularly within developing countries. Through a critical review of existing literature, this study aids in the revelation of inadequate fulfilment of elderly human rights in developing countries. Consequently, this has led to the provision of recommendations to aid the improvement of elderly human rights fulfilment in developing countries.
