Riassunto analitico
The EU is nowadays a fully-fledged international actor. Since 2003, under the framework of the CSDP, the EU has launched 36 military or civilian operations abroad. The intricacy of the contexts where these missions are deployed makes human rights violations likely to occur. Given the strong EU commitment to the protection and promotion of human rights, it is of the utmost importance that it be endowed with adequate mechanisms to ascertain its responsibility and provide victims with remedies. Therefore, through the analysis of the primary sources of law, the domestic and international case law, this thesis aims at examining the legal framework regulating the EU responsibility, at assessing the existing mechanisms to make the EU responsible for human rights violations in CSDP missions, and at identifying the main flaws and deficiencies of the current system.
